Thursday, Ellis County Press reporter Megan Gray and I will be co-hosting The ECO Show, where we’ll interview sheriff write-in candidate Susan Welch-Rodriguez.

We’re drafting a list of five questions to submit to her before coming on Thursday’s show (starts at 7 p.m.), but we want to let the readers of the ECO submit their own questions as well, just in case people get scared out of calling in live.

Feel free to post your questions in the comments section.

Bookmark EllisCountyRadio.com for Thursday’s show.

BestSouthwest: AFP-TX Visits Duncanville Saturday

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments

[BestSouthwestBlog.com]
I hope Peggy Venable over at the Americans For Prosperity-Texas chapter has something to say about Duncanville ISD’s 13-cent property tax increase election in October.

She’ll be at the Republican field office in Duncanville on Saturday at 10 a.m.

For a look at what a real fiscal conservative organization looks like (God knows there aren’t any in the Best Southwest to speak of), visit AFPTX.org. Hey, at least Venable will be in a town that shares at least two conservative elected officials in the city, that of Duncanville Councilman Paul Ford and Duncanville ISD trustee Cindy Werner.

It’s interesting to note that when the vote came to put the 13-cent tax increase on the ballot, Werner was the lone “No” vote.

We’re hoping, though, that state representative candidate Homer Fincannon, R-Duncanville, joins the cast of conservatives.

Rick Noriega vs. John Cornyn: The GI Bill

August 18th, 2008 · No Comments

[REALCon]
When the GI Bill came up in the US Senate, John Cornyn voted against the bill. Rick Noriega, candidate for Senate running against Cornyn, has used that record against him, claiming that he doesn’t support the bill at all. Yet Senator Cornyn made a statement on a Youtube video saying he supported the bill, but voted against it because it lacked important details, provisions that give benefits to not just veterans, but to their spouse and their children.

Noriega wishes we would believe that he stands completely against it, simply because of that vote, as he says in his youtube ad, using veterans and servicemen to claim that Cornyn said that “giving veterans benefits will weaken America.” I haven’t found any record of that comment, and if you can show it to me, I’ll believe it, but I don’t see how Senator Cornyn could say something like that. My guess is it was taken out of context, like Noriega’s initial claim.

As for me, I don’t support the GI Bill as it was originally proposed, but I see John Cornyn’s idea and it makes total and complete sense, and I would support it under these provisions.

Candidate Prayers

August 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Our prayers are with the Libertarian candidate for county treasurer, Cathy Kennedy, who is in the hospital with unspecified medical concerns.

Even though she publicly withdrew from the race earlier this year, her name is still on the ballot. Treasurer Judy Burden, R-Waxahachie, is virtually assured of the election (no Democrat filed.)

But Cathy is a fighter and I know she can pull through this.
